Screening
Which Companies Use the CCAT in 2026? The Short List (and Where to Dig Deeper)
Updated
Former Senior Software Engineer at AWS · Creator of TestCCAT
The CCAT shows up across tech, private equity portfolios, AI fellowships, and even some admissions. Here’s a current snapshot of who screens with it, with links to full score bands.
A quick honesty note before the list: these are companies and programs that use the CCAT to screen candidates. They don’t endorse, partner with, or use TestCCAT. I just built the tool to help you prepare for them. I’ve sat the CCAT and its proctored version myself, and I’ve watched TestCCAT users clear these screens, so some of this is firsthand. Other entries are confirmed by the employer or program; the rest are candidate-reported and flagged as such, because hiring tools change and not everyone publishes their process.
Tech & SaaS
Plenty of software companies fold the CCAT into early screening to gauge problem-solving speed before an engineer or PM ever talks to a recruiter. A few names that come up:
- Coinbase has been reported to use the CCAT in some early-stage screens; treat that as candidate-reported, not officially confirmed.
- Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, runs a distributed, trial-heavy process where the CCAT fits its aptitude-first hiring style.
- Samsara shows up in certain technical and operations pipelines, according to candidates.
- Informatica surfaces in some engineering screens; verify against your specific role’s process.
Remote staffing
Crossover is the single most-cited CCAT employer. It uses the test as a hard gate, the bar is high (often 35+), and strong applicants are asked to sit a proctored re-test (the PCCAT) to confirm the score. If you’re applying here, prepare to perform under proctoring, not just once. I went through this exact gate myself: I sat the proctored PCCAT through Crossover, and the second sitting is as much about staying calm under observation as it is about the questions.
Private equity portfolios
Vista Equity Partners is the reason so many people hit the CCAT unexpectedly. Vista makes the test mandatory across 90+ portfolio companies, so even if you’ve never heard of the CCAT, interviewing at a Vista-owned software company likely means you’ll take it. If the firm acquiring or owning your target employer is Vista, expect it.
AI fellowships & dev shops
The newest wave of CCAT users is in AI training and engineering programs, where it filters for raw learning speed:
- Gauntlet AI is an intensive AI engineering program with a steep bar (40+) and a proctored sitting. This is the program I took the CCAT for; I missed the Prime bar at 36 on my first try, and that miss is the reason TestCCAT exists.
- Gauntlet for America is a public-sector-focused track with a slightly lower target (around 36).
- Superbuilders is an AI engineering dev shop building edtech that runs a proctored CCAT with a 40 target.
Admissions
It’s not only employers. Some allied-health schools use the CCAT to screen applicants for competitive seats. For example, Gurnick’s Radiologic Technology track uses CCAT results as part of its admissions decisions, so the same prep that helps job seekers can help students too.
On a personal note, this isn’t theoretical for me. TestCCAT users have gone on to pass CCAT screens for engineering and product roles at Automattic, Crossover, and the Australian Public Service. The CCAT turns up in more places than any single list can capture.
How confident should you be in this list?
Crossover, Vista Equity, Gauntlet AI, Gauntlet for America, and Superbuilders are well-established CCAT users. The tech names above lean more on candidate reports, so always confirm with your recruiter or the program’s own materials.
